Part 6

Maintenance is the key to success

Just like a weight-loss program, the only way to stay organized is to commit to maintenance.

You’ve applied my 4 Q’s to purge out the things you no longer want, use, or need and now my signature 4 P’s will help you maintain the order you’ve created.

  • Persistent,
  • Purposeful,
  • Purging, and
  • Placement of all that remains

RECOMMENDATION

I suggest a quarterly “hard look” at your space. If there’s been some backsliding, some clutter accumulation, you can easily get back on track by applying the 4 Q’s and processing that paperwork again. Don’t let it get ahead of you, or the task becomes daunting again.

TIPS

Once you’ve gotten your all your spaces organized, adopt the “One Thing In, One Thing Out” mantra. Also ask yourself, “How much is enough, and how much do I REALLY need?”

Process mail and paperwork no less than once a week. It’s a habit that will serve you well.

Just because something is a good deal doesn’t mean you should buy it. As the saying goes, “The road to bankruptcy is paved in good deals.”

ANNUAL REVIEW

An annual review of your Trust and Last Will & Testament is recommended by many professionals.

Over the course of a year, many things can change. Once your Trust and Last Will & Testament are finalized, put an entry on your calendar to review it each year. You will want to ensure that your Trust is funded by current assets, and that the trust and will convey your most current wishes.
